WHAT IS IT?
Soluble phosphorous (SP) is the most important nutrient for aquatic algae and plants. Aluminum Sulfate (Alum) is designed to control SP in water. Surface run-off and bottom sediments are the two main sources for SP in your water body. If surface run-off is a minor source, Alum can be used to reduce the amount of SP in the water and prevent the release of SP from the bottom sediments. Alum also clarifies the water by binding to suspended soil particles and settling them out of the water.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Upon contact with water, Alum forms a white precipitate called “floc”. The floc binds with SP and suspended particles and then slowly settles out of the water. Once on the bottom, the floc forms a layer that acts as a barrier by binding the phosphorous that is released from the sediments.
BENEFITS
Alum removes nutrients from the water. These nutrients come from decaying leaves, dead algae and weeds, grass clippings, excess fertilizer runoff, animal wastes, and many other places. Removal of these nutrients reduces algae growth and increases water clarity.
IS IT SAFE?
The criteria for Alum treatments contain very specific water chemistry conditions. Under these conditions, Alum has a very small ability to dissolve into the water, which stops the dissolved aluminum from ever reaching unsafe levels.
WHAT ARE THE DRAWBACKS?
Some effort by the residents to reduce SP influx may be required. The effectiveness of the treatment depends on the rate of nutrients moving into the water body. Switching to a non-phosphorous lawn fertilizer is a very important preliminary step to returning your water body to a valuable aquatic resource.

Enzymes & Bacteria are a combination of enzymes, carefully selected strains of beneficial bacteria, and natural surfactants that collectively improve water clarity and break down sludge in the water column before it can settle and accumulate. Bacteria contains specialized strains of fast-reproducing microbes and high-volume waste consumers that voraciously feed on excess nutrients This powerful product attacks foul sludge odor and slows the aging process of lakes & ponds.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Dry Bacteria is blend of special microbes that consume excess nutrients, visible solids, and other unwanted growth in water. This formulation includes hard-working strains that degrade sludge-causing organics in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions in the water column and on the bottom. The program provides a viable, 2-pronged approach on certain types of lakes and ponds. Instead of only exterminating algae blooms, this approach works to consume the dead algae after treatment. Bacteria seek all nutrient sources that algae use to form the next bloom.
BENEFITS:
The augmentation program is designed to stimulate the existing naturally occurring bacteria with additional species of fast-acting bacteria. Bacteria attacks nutrients in the water column and sludge bed, feeding on organics, odor-causing volatiles, and waste from ducks, geese, and fish that cause the muck to accumulate and stimulate algae growth.
IS IT SAFE?
The latest products have no effect on turf grass or ornamental shrubs and flowers. They are completely harmless to fish, and actually improve the factors that sustain a robust and healthy fish population. The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences has tested the products and found them to be safe. They have been approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.) not only for human exposure, but also for use in commercial fish farms and other operations that result in eventual human consumption.
WHAT ARE THE DRAWBACKS?
The bacteria will never consume enough nutrients to eliminate algae blooms without the help of chemistry treatment plans. Bacteria levels do not survive over winter.

LakePro Beach Spray is safe for use around lakes or ponds. This product is easy to use and is an effective way to keep beach areas free of unwanted vegetation. Beach Spray controls everything from small grasses to cattails and invasive Phragmites.
The product moves from the leaves, through the stem, and into the roots, effectively killing the entire weed. However, the Spray does not prevent new weed growth, so most beaches need two treatments per season (early-June, late-July). Effects can be seen within 2-7 days depending on the plant and environmental conditions.
